Malvertising is the act of injecting malicious code into legitimate online advertising networks, which can then redirect users to malicious websites.
Unlike adware, which targets individual users in order to the operate on their computer, malvertising is deployed on a publisher’s web page, and affects users viewing the infected site.

Malvertising attack methods include:
- “drive-by downloads” — installation of malware or adware on the computer of a user viewing the 'malvertisement'
- redirecting the browser to a malicious site
- executing JavaScript to display unwanted advertising, malicious content, or pop-ups

How can users prevent a malvertising attack?
- Use an antivirus solution
- Employ ad blockers
- Update browsers and plug-ins
